COMPARISONS
IP scanner comparisons, with sources
Every factual statement about a product we do not make carries a link to that vendor’s or project’s own publication and the date it was read. Every comparison lists what our own tool cannot do, in the same section as everyone else’s limits. We have not benchmarked any of these tools and no page here claims we have — the method is written down.

Alternatives to a tool you already use
You have one in mind and something about it does not fit. These pages start from what is wrong rather than from a feature list.
- Angry IP Scanner alternativesAngry IP Scanner is free, open source and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, so most people looking for an alternative want either a native app instead of a Java one, or richer device identification. Advanced IP Scanner covers the first on Windows; Fing covers the second, at the cost of an account.
- Advanced IP Scanner alternativesAdvanced IP Scanner is free but Windows-only and closed source, so alternatives are usually chosen for one of two reasons: you need macOS or Linux, or you need software you can audit. Angry IP Scanner answers both. NETworkManager answers the second on Windows and adds a portable build.
- Fing alternativesFing Desktop requires a free account and signs in to Fing’s cloud services for device recognition and to sync network data. If that is the reason you are looking, Angry IP Scanner, NETworkManager and Nmap are free, local and account-free — but none of them names consumer hardware as well as Fing does.
- Nmap and Zenmap alternativesNmap with Zenmap is the most capable scanner here and the hardest to use casually. If you only need to know which devices are on a subnet, Angry IP Scanner, Advanced IP Scanner and NETworkManager answer that in one click. Keep Nmap for service and version detection and scripting, which nothing else here does.
- NETworkManager alternativesNETworkManager is a free, GPL v3 Windows toolbox with an IP scanner, port scanner and remote-session clients in one window. Alternatives are worth it for one reason above all: it does not run on macOS or Linux. Angry IP Scanner is the closest cross-platform match; Nmap goes deeper on one machine.
- Advanced IP Scanner for MacThere is no macOS build of Advanced IP Scanner. This page covers what actually exists for the Mac instead.
Head to head
Direct comparisons against the tool we build. Our own limits are on the same page, in the same table.
- Angry IP Scanner vs IPScanner.ProAngry IP Scanner is free, open source, cross-platform and available today. IPScanner.Pro keeps encrypted local history, marks what is NEW, GONE and CHANGED between scans, and shows the evidence behind each identification — but it runs only on macOS so far and has no public download, so Angry IP Scanner is the one you can actually use.
- Advanced IP Scanner vs IPScanner.ProAdvanced IP Scanner is free and available now, but Windows-only and closed source, and its vendor page does not describe how results are stored. IPScanner.Pro keeps results encrypted on the machine that scanned and shows its evidence, but it is macOS-first and has no public download yet.
- Fing vs IPScanner.ProFing Desktop names consumer devices better than a local tool can, because it signs in to Fing’s cloud services for device recognition. IPScanner.Pro keeps results on the machine that scanned and shows the evidence behind each identification instead. Fing is available now; IPScanner.Pro has no public download.
- Nmap / Zenmap vs IPScanner.ProNmap with Zenmap is a security auditing tool: scripting, service and version detection, deep output. IPScanner.Pro is an inventory tool: retained encrypted history, changes since the last scan, and visible evidence behind each identification. Nmap is free and available now; IPScanner.Pro has no public download.
- NETworkManager vs IPScanner.ProNETworkManager is a free, open-source Windows toolbox — IP scanner, port scanner, WiFi analyzer and remote-session clients in one window, with a portable build. IPScanner.Pro does one thing instead: inventory with encrypted history and visible evidence. NETworkManager is available now; IPScanner.Pro has no public download.
- Angry IP Scanner vs Advanced IP Scanner vs IPScanner.ProAdvanced IP Scanner is free and easiest on Windows but Windows-only and closed source. Angry IP Scanner is free, open source and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. Both are available today. IPScanner.Pro adds encrypted history and visible evidence, and has no public download — so the real choice is between the first two.
